Lionel Messi finally signs new contract with Barcelona
Barcelona announced that Messi had agreed to a new deal back in July but the forward had delayed signing the contract until now, leading to fears he could begin negotiations with foreign suitors from January onwards.
The 30-year-old has finally put an end to the speculation by penning a new deal that also included an astronomical €700million release clause, meaning there will be no repeat of the mistake which saw PSG trigger Neymar’s buyout clause last summer.
Since joining the club at 13 and graduating from the famed La Masia academy, Messi has helped Barcelona to eight Spanish league titles and won the Champions League four times. Messi won the European Golden Shoe for the fourth time by scoring 37 goals in the Spanish league last season.
